Information warfare has been a major way in modern war. Tactical data link shows its significant importance as the blood of communication, command and control in the information warfare. Supported by Linkl6, Joint Tactical Information Distribution System (JTIDS) has been used jointly by American army, navy and air force. It is a time division multiple access system which has many characteristics as high-capacity, high-security, strong anti-interference ability. Since JTIDS can adapt to the need of modern warfare which is dominated by electronic warfare and information warfare, it has replaced the low speed tactical wireless data transfer network. JTIDS ensures unimpeded information transfer and sharing, because of which joint battle can win several wars since the Gulf War. Nowadays, this system is deployed in several countries around china. So it has the important realistic meaning to research on the receiving of and detection on JTIDS.Be aware of JTIDS signal’s characteristic of wide frequency range and fast frequency hopping, this paper designs an efficient channelized receiving method for JTIDS, after analyzing the theory about ploy-phase channelized receiver. This method can intercept JTIDS signals with high probability and requires low computation complexity. It has been validated by a mass of simulation tests using MATLAB. On the problem of detecting JTIDS signal, a method of detecting JTIDS signal on the output of the channelize receiver is proposed. The detection process is comprised of three steps. The first step is the pulse width estimation which depends on energy detection. The second step is channel judgment which relies on FCME (Forward Consecutive Mean Excision). The last step is MSK (Minimum Shift Keying) detection which uses square multiple frequency detection. Many characteristics of the JTIDS signal have been investigated in the process, including pulse width, symbol rate and modulation type. The performance of the proposed detection method is analyzed through a large number of simulation tests by using MATLAB software. Simulation results indicate that this detection method has an extraordinary precision to judge that whether the received signal is JTIDS signal or not. At last, Verilog HDL codes for realizing the proposed efficient channelized receiving method are developed and tested on a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) breadboard. It is proved that the receiving architecture can be realized on hardware by this way.Through this paper’s discussion, we can reach the following conclusions. First, the efficient channelized receiving method which is designed in this paper is not only a simple, precise and efficient method, but also is apt to realize. Furthermore, the proposed detection method on JTIDS signal which is based on signal pulse width detection, channel judgment and MSK detection has high probability of detection.
