<Sin Po> was an influential newspaper during the early20th Century in Indonesia. It is a wide known newspaper among Chinese Indonesians.<Sin Po> was established in Oct1st1910, terminated on Oct1st1965under the name of<Zhong Cheng Bao>. Throughout its55years history, it has signifant contribution in Indonesia’s independence from the Dutch and subsequent nation building effort, development of Indonesia’s newpaper industry as well as Chinese education in Indonesia and Indonesia’s political awakening.This article is divided into7parts:the first part explains the contributions of<Sin Po> since Indonesia’s independence from the Dutch in1945, initiatives to counter the anti-Chinese movement of that period, advocate recognition of New China, efforts to improve Indo-China relations and participation in the founding of "Xin Ming Hui" and "Guo Ji Xie Shang Hui"The second part highlights how<Sin Po> established itself as a major newspaper of that period, differences among Indonesia’s Chinese population, two instrumental figures in the newspapers development, influence of<Sin Po> in the1920s and the relationship of<Sin Po> with<Jing Bao>.The third part consists of Mr Zhu Maoshan’s major contributions to<Sin Po>.The forth part details the influence and contributions of<Sin Po> and Indonesian Chinese on Indonesia’s literature as well as education.The fifth part explains the relationship between<Sin Po>, Ji Nan Institution and Chinese education.The sixth part highlights Sukarno’s close relationship with<Sin Po> and how he talks about establishment good relationship with China.The seventh part consists of the political positions and major news reports in<Zhong Cheng Bao>, interview with the last editor of<Sin Po> A.Karim D.P. the causes and events leading up to the30September Movement in Indonesia.On the basis of the above discussions, interview and analysis, this article concludes that <Sin Po> and other chinese newspapers of the era have a glorious past and have made significant contributions to Indonesia’s society and development. These past Chinese newspapers not only do new reporting but they were also an important medium in communicating Indonesian nationalism to the masses.
