Along with the rapid development of communication technology and therequirements of the information society,"Internet of things(IOT)" which is based onInternet is invented, and IOT integratedly uses embedded, sensors, intelligent controlmodule, short distance wireless communication technology (ZigBee and RFID, etc),database technology, network technology and software technology, etc. IOT aims toachieve the information acquisition, integration, dissemination and sharing between “onething and another” and between “people and objects”. And IOT can be widely used insmart home, intelligent transportation, intelligent security, industrial production, intelligentlogistics, environmental protection and some other fields. At present, all the countries arein the study of IOT technology, but there is no uniform standard. In this paper a remoteenvironmental monitoring system based on IOT is designed, and this paper gives anaccount of a method to implement the remote environmental monitoring system.Firstly, the three-tier architecture of IOT is analysed. The Internet of thingsapplication is designed according to the perception layer, network layer, application layer.And the application of key technologies in the system is expounded in this paper.Then, the remote environmental monitoring system based on the three-tierarchitecture of IOT and its functions are the designed and implemented. The main work isdesign the perception layer, transport layer and application layer software and hardwareusing the ZigBee wireless sensor networks and RFID application system. Perception layeris designed to complete the data collection and aggregation. Transport layer applicatenetwork technology, the serial communication technology and database technology toupload data to the application platform. Data application platform is for data processing,storage and sharing.The server based on Java EE Platform Browser/Server architecture is designed anddevelopped. The system uses the JSP language to write a front-end display interface;JavaBean to process serial hardware operation and Socket communication; the backenduses JDBC technology to manage database.Finally, the whole system running and debugging, the operating condition of the system is displayed objectivily using inages, and several key modules in the system areintroduced. In this system the remote users use a browser to access the server resources.The temperature and humidity from the ZigBee wireless sensor network can be queried,The control command can be sent to the ZigBee terminal node. Also, the position ofdevices can be display on the page.
