Research On The Impact Mechanism Of The Legitimacy On The Information System Adoption

Some incredible phenomena of the application of the information systems haveappeared, such as many companies not spare spending much money on replacing theoriginal well-running information systems to satisfy the needs of the IT audit for thelisted companies. However, the existing researches relating to information systemadoption are always focusing on the economic benefits of the implementation ofinformation systems, which ignores the study of the social benefits of theimplementation of information systems to the enterprises, thus to some extent,theycannot explain some incredible phenomenon of the application of the informationsystems.However, institutional theory provides us another perspective to understand theadoption of information systems, therefore, this paper tries to introduce the concept oflegitimacy combined with the view of institutional theory to information systemadoption research area, follows the critical realism research paradigm and takes theadoption of ERP systems of M enterprise for example, then it develops an exploratorycase study of the adoption behavior of the ERP system in M company, recognizes thekey elements in the process that the legitimacy affects the ERP adoption in M andemploys system dynamics modeling software Vensim PLE to build causal loopdiagram between elements and stock-flow graph model. With the constant and theinitial values of variables assigned by experts, system dynamics equations areestablished, after that, this paper simulates the degree of ERP adoption of theorganization, the degree of ERP adoption of the employee and the external legitimacybenefits under different conditions, finally, the validity and limitations of the modelare described.This paper will firstly combine the ignored social benefits in the informationsystem performance studies and the information systems adoption research to studythe information systems adoption process, and expand the information systemsadoption research from the traditional economic performance evaluation studies to the study areas of social factors and mechanisms, the research results will be of greatsignificance for enterprises to know how to better access to the benefits ofinformation systems.
