ObjectivesTo investigate the emotional intelligence and job burnout among nurses ofpsychiatric hospital in Jilin province, and research the influence of emotionalintelligence of psychiatric nurses and administrators on the job burnout. Payingmore attention to the psychologic status of psychiatric nurse, aiming to reduce thejob burnout, stabilizing the clinical nursing team. Providing theoretical evidence ofthe relation between emotional intelligence and job burnout for administrator to findeffective solutions.MethodsA questionnaire was applied on205psychiatric nurses from two psychiatrichospital in Jilin province from September to November2013. The questionnaireincludes three parts: general information of psychiatric nurses, EmotionalIntelligence Inventory and Maslach Burnout Inventory. Set up database by Epidata3.0and analyze it by SPSS17.0, using the descriptive analysis, t-test,Kruskal-Wallis H-test, ANOVA analysis, pearson correlation analysis and multiplestepwise regression analysis.Results1. The average score of emotional intelligence is4.71±0.45, which is at themiddle level. According to the scores from high to low,the sequenceis self-emotional appraisal, ues of emotion, others’ emotional appraisal, andregulation of emotional.2. The main aspect of job burnout is personal accomplishment, and the middle of personal accomplishment is17.10%, and the sever level is66.30%.3. There are statistically differences on the emotional intelligence level and thejob burnout level between the psychiatric nurses with different personalcharacteristic, such as gender, marital status, contracttype, age, years of working,educational level, and professional title(p<0.05).4. There is a significant negative correlation between the overall and alldimensions of emotional intelligence and emotional exhaustion, depersonalization(p<0.01); there is a significant positive correlation with personal accomplishment(p<0.01).5. Regulation of emotional affect emotional exhaustion of job burnout, fornegative effects(p<0.01); regulation of emotional, self-emotional appraisal, gender,age(≤25years old), contract type affect depersonalization of job burnout(p<0.05),and gender for positive effect, regulation of emotional, self-emotional appraisal,age(≤25years old), contract type for negative effects; regulation of emotional, useof emotion, professional title, self-emotional appraisal, marital status affect personalaccomplishment of job burnout, and all for positive(p<0.05).Conclusion1. The emotional intelligence of psychiatric nurses is at the middle level andstill meeds to be improved.2. The level of psychiatric nurses’ job burnout is low, mainly in the dimensionof personal accomplishment, need to improve the personal sense of achievement ofpsychiatric nurses.3. There are statistically difference on the emotional intelligence and jobburnout between psychiatric nurses with different personal characteristic, especiallygender, age, professional title and martial status.4. Emotional intelligence affects the degree of job burnout, especially theregulation of emotional can forecast job burnout. so it is suggested the nurseadministrators should improve the emotional intelligence of themselves andpsychiatric nurese, in order to adjust their mood state and focus on the personal development.
