Objective:To explore the current status of job burnout and its influence on the nursing staffs in athird-grade class-A psychiatric hospitals in order to provide basic data for intervention. Methods:A total of121nurses who worked in psychiatric hospitals in Wuxi City wereinvestigated with the Chinese version of the nurse burnout Scale (NBS), and thequestionnaires were filled for all the subjects. The prevalence (%) of categorical variablesand average levels(x±S) of continuous variables were calculated for the groups, singlefactor analysis of variance and t-test were used to examine the relationship between twovariables, and multiple linear regression were used to analyze the influencing factors of jobburnout. Statistical significance level of0.05was used and statistical analysis wasconducted using SPSS16.0statistical software. Results:There were phenomena of job burnout in a certain degree among the nurses whoworked in psychiatric hospitals; the prevalence of job burnout was42.0%among thenurses. Among121nurses,57.9%of them had no or mild burnout,36.4%and5.8%ofthem had mild to moderate burnout and severe burnout, respectively. Single factor analysisof variance (ANOVA) showed that the dimension of burnout scores in marital status, education, tenure, income, department and night shifts had statistical difference (p<0.05).Multiple linear regression analysis showed that the main influencing factors of burnoutwere working length and working department, the total contribution rate was19.81%.Conclusions:The prevalence of job burnout was42.0%among the nurses who worked inpsychiatric hospitals in Wuxi city. The prevalence of mild to moderate burnout and severeburnout were36.4%and5.8%, respectively, among the nurses. The main influencing factors of burnout were working length and working department, the total contribution ratewas19.81%.
