Streaming media is a research hotspot in the area of computer application, and streaming media technology in heterogeneous networks is also a hotspot. Different network-providers’access networks with different characteristics coexist, which drives heterogeneous networks become more and more integrated, and it becomes an important topic that users can enjoy their media services across networks and devices. In heterogeneous networks, mobile terminals need dynamically and immediately selecting and handovering their best servers according to the changes of locations and channels’parameters, which determine handover technology is also critical. Besides, when the nowaday’s content distribution solutions applied in the heterogeneous and distributed networks, such as CDN (Content Delivery Network) and P2P (Peer-to-Peer), they will show their inherent defects, which need new content distribution solutions to be carried out according to the heterogeneous and distributed networks.For solving the above several problems, the corresponding solutions and technologies are proposed in this paper. New streaming-media’s access solutions of user devices are proposed and proved. And after the demands of user-devices’s access are showed and the research situation of this direction are analysed, the access solution that is users-centered and associated users with their multi-mode terminals is described. The selection solution that dynamically selecting media servers according to the realtime detected network performance is carried out. The factors of mobile streaming’s QoE in network are analysed, and the architecture and selection policy are described. A new streaming content distribution solutuion of combining CDN and P4P is proposed, and some key technical issues of this streaming system are explored. The streaming system with the combination of CDN and P4P (Proactive network Provider Participation for P2P), absorbes the advantages of the both technologies, increases the capacity of the system, reduces the overall costs, and increase the network performance and the quality of streaming.After series of the tests and verifications, the validity of main solutions and related technologies above had been proved. And these solutions and technologies will lead the application of streaming in the heterogeneous and distributed networks.
