With the explosive development of Internet, it becomes easier for people to gather much more information than ever. Streaming media technique is an utilizable solution for meet the requirement of clients for the high quality of multimedia on the net. By using streaming technology, people need not download the whole file before watch the content as usual, and they download the newest media content when watching the media. The critical technology of multimedia is to settle the contradiction between large consumption of media storage and finite network bandwidth. With the implementation and application of Streaming media technique in recent years, people have realized the immense potential of streaming media. It is going to widely use in NIS such as multimedia living news, remote education,electronic commerce, video on demand, video telephone and real-time video conference, etc.The dissertation first focus on the technologies related to net communication protocols and multimedia compress. Then, speciality of streaming media, streaming media caching proxy technique and scheduling strategy are analyzed. In view of existing situation, a distributed hiberarchy servers (based on PC) with high-powered are proposed, which has a prominent characteristic of high performance/price ratio and easy to expand and contract.
