Improving The Electronic Resources Management Of China Geological Library

With the development of economy and modern information technology, theproportion of electronic resources in the library collection system is growingsignificantly. Electronic resources have developed into an extremely important part ofthe library resources construction. In order to provide better services to the readers,the libraries are accelerating the pace of construction of electronic resources,collecting a large number of electronic resources. For various reasons, in practicalapplications, there are a variety of problems which made the cost is too high or theutilization rate is too low. How to effectively reduce funding for procurement ofelectronic resources, and how to improve the utilization of electronic resources arequestions for each library.China Geological Library is a public geosciences information services unit of MLR,responsible for the national geological information construction. Each year, we spenta lot of money on electronic resources. But what is the scientific and rational way tobalance the electronic resources and print resources? How many electronic resourcesaccurately find suitable resources in the construction of China Geological Libraryelectronic resources? How to determine whether we should purchase the newelectronic resources or we should renew one? These are electronic resourcesmanagement problems, and need to be solved and improved in the future. This paperanalyzes the situation of China Geological Library electronic resources management,especially for those purchased electronic resources. Through the assessment study andsubmit the library future purchases and renewals electronic evaluation model, and theproblems put forward corresponding recommendations to improvement of libraryelectronic resources management to provide a reference. Meanwhile according to thecharacteristics of electronic resources collection, analyzes Geological Libraryelectronic resources management situation and existing problems, and for theproblems, put forward six electronic resource management improvement suggestions.
