Study On Integrated Evaluation Of Digital Resources Utilization Efficacy In China Universities

Digital resources is one of the manifestations of literature information.It is the mutual integrated formation of computer technology, communication technology and multimedia technology, and the sum of information resources which is released, accessed, utilized in digital form. The value of digital resources is heavily influenced by the size of resource allocation and utilization efficiency. As for university resources construction staff and library managers, commercialization digital resources is the main part of the construction funding puts in and the main target concerned, and also the main channel for users to find the the information resources. Therefore, this study will focus on the commercialization digital resources, that we often call the database resources, and on the statistical analysis and comparison of its usage. The utilization of digital resources is evaluated, combined with a number of indicators in the various aspects of its using process.This paper is divided into six chapters, and the main contents are as follows:Chapter1Related theories of the utilization efficacy evaluation of university digital resources.This chapter is the theoretical basis part of this study. In this paper related theories including performance evaluation, information resources allocation and customer satisfaction are introduced,while efficacy and its related concepts are discriminated. Based on this, the utilization efficacy evaluation system of digital resources is proposed, including utilization efficiency, utilization effectiveness, utilization capabilities, and build the structure framework for the utilization efficacy evaluation. The following four chapters is the core of this paper. The empirical research focuses on the selected object of211university, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics(NUAA) for the study, discussing the utilization efficiency, utilization effectiveness and utilization capability of university digital resources.Chapter2Utilization efficiency analysis of university digital resources based on the usage of databases.First, the construction funds and resources collection structure of universities in China are analyzed, as well as the status of the digital resource allocation. Then, the cost performance of using foreign language databases, which are the main components of digital resources in universities, is analyzed and compared. And then take NUAA as an example, an empirical analysis is carried out with the cost of resource utilization, the average downloads of journals, and other indicators of resource utilization disciplines. Particularly the important resource utilization efficiency is discussed deeply, selecting ScienceDirect database which has the highest utilization efficiency. The performance of its use, the core used journals, search behavior of users using it are analyzed based on log analysis. In addition, the core used journals of critical databases are counted, for later research of the relevant comparison with the core used journals in research outputs. Finally, based on the zero usage of journals in databases and document delivery data, utilization efficiency is explored reversely from the view of resource utilization inadequate.Chapter3Utilization effectiveness analysis of university digital resources based on scientific research outputs and citation analysis.This chapter is based on the importance of research performance evaluation. The most representative scientific papers are selected as an entry point to analyze the papers included in international authority retrieval evaluation tools database of SCI and SSCI, their citations, and distribution ratio of their source journals, source databases, and document types. Then the citations in some key disciplines, utilization effectiveness and scientific level of supporting are explored.Because of the non-standard bibliographic citation and research blank, the identification of the citation is a heavy and difficult work, a lot of valuable real data is obtained also.After acquiring the core journals and citations, correlation analysis is carried out between core download journals, to explore the degree of correlation between the issued and citations, issued and downloads, citations and downloads both in science and technology disciplines and social science disciplines, in order to evaluate the contribution of the use of digital resources and the research output effectiveness.Chapter4Utilization capabilities analysis of university digital resources based on user surveys.First, four dimensions of the user ability to use digital resources is extract among important factors affecting, including resource awareness, information literacy level, deep utilization levels, and user satisfaction. Based on the cross-analysis of different identities, different qualifications and different disciplines, subjective intention and objective usage data is obtained. Integrated scores for various dimensions of resource utilization capabilities among university users in different levels are given. Targeted recommendations by users for resource development, resource organization, and resource services are collected.Chapter5Discussion of university digital resource utilization efficacy evaluation and efficacy improvements.This chapter is based on statistical analysis done in the first three chapters, combining qualitative analysis and quantitative data to give comprehensive evaluation for university digital resource utilization efficacy. And on this basis, specific measures for university digital resource utilization efficacy improvement are proposed.Chapter6Summary and Outlook.This ending part sorts out the full text, refining ideas and put forward shortcomings of this study, as well as the the outlook for the future research directions.This evaluation of resource utilization is based on the indicators of core journals utilization efficiency, the relationship between deep resource utilization and research output, which focus on the actual use level of digital resources. Through the utilization efficacy evaluation of digital resources, it is possible to measure the accurately, objectively and reasonable level of resource utilization. And the study can promote the support level of literature resources for higher education and scientific research, and increase the utilization capacity level of digital resource. In theory, it helps to improve the reliability of performance evaluation of library resources, improve the resource allocation theory, and support for decision making for library literature resources construction.(table94, figure195)...
