Gravity dam is one of the earliest dam types in hydraulic engineering building construction history, which has been used widely in China in recent years. Because of the large quantity of basic information and complexity in dam design, two-dimensional design method is still the major way in the current gravity dam design engineering instead of three-dimension which has not been widely used. To raise the level and efficiency of gravity dam design, research on developing for gravity dam design, by taking full advantage of today’s rapid development of modeling technology and the powerful three-dimension modeling, is very necessary.Considering the application of Computer Aided Design in gravity dam designing and based on the idea of three dimensional design and visualization, this thesis studies the parametric design methods of gravity dam according to the design processes and specifications as well as parametric design technologies. The parametric modeling system for gravity dam aided design is developed based on CATIA (Computer Aided Three-Dimensional Interface Application) software, and also a case study is analyzed. The main contents in this thesis are as follows:(1) The categories of gravity dam models according to the design processes and methods and the implementation of the parametric designing of gravity dam model objects in CATIA are studied.(2) By using the knowledge engineering modules and parametric design methods of CATIA, the gravity dam parametric design template libraries are generated based on CATIA.(3) CATIA-based parameterized modeling system based on CATIA second development is realized. The system integrates seven modules including gravity dam design process, design basic data, gravity dam design platform, assembly design, load stability calculation and the final design. It basically realized parameterized design and creation of parameterized models.(4) Taking example of Gushan Lake concrete gravity dam project, the gravity dam parameterized modeling system is used to complete the design and creation of concrete gravity dam parameterized model of Gushan Lake reservoir.At last, the study and outlooks about development of gravity dam parameterized design platform is summarized.
