Research On The Reporting Framework Of Sudden Natural Disasters

Sudden natural disasters are always put attention to by the mass media, whichhas great influence. However, there come some problems. Will newspapers reportvarious news sources in the short-term war? Can it be put into practice？Is it real andobjective? Is it adhere to professional spirit? Based on this, the core issue of this studyis: The reporting framework of sudden natural disaster events. This dissertation usesthe reports of sudden natural disaster of “July21th,2012” rainstorm in Beijing and“August8th,2012" typhoon in Zhejiang as study case, and by analysis andinterpretation, this dissertation attempts to put forward the reporting framework by themain related media under several dimersional pressure in the two places.The dissertation is based on the theory of the events of sudden natural disasterand the concepts of frame theory, using research methods including text analysis,comparative analysis and the main way of the qualitative research, the thesis hassystems analyzed the reports’ discourse within a ten days from the People’s Daily andBeijing&Zhejiang Party newspapers and evening city newspapers, considering fromboth reality and theory level. According to that before the incident, the event progress,and the end of the events for the division point, raised all kinds of reports framework.The common framework are disaster reported, reconstruction&stability maintenance,the image of the government propaganda, good deeds, service, the weak of localpublic opinion supervision and other framework. In short, the overall biased in favorof the government discourse. Because some of them have great influence ofrelationship with our media properties and the factor of political considerations. Atthe same time, due to the different of the natural environment, geographic location,and the degree of emergency response, causes that result in the different reportingframework.On the basis of elaborating the news schema, this paper reveals the constructingfactors of sudden natural disaster events’ reporting framework: journalists and media organizations, sources with the audience, government considerations and ideology,the lasting value and competition. This dissertation furtherly puts forward theidealized reporting mode: the relative distribution of voice, reasonable reproduction offacts scene and diversified comprehensive reports, and eventually in hopes ofenhancing the richness of reporting framework with regard to such kind of reports,and let various social strata within the ideological spectrum have right to show theirown discourse and space. Moreover, a reasonable picture of the facts is hoped toshown to the audience so that the sound development of the society can be wellguided.
