Under the circumstance of the furious competitive market, the products renewpromptly. It requires enterprises high sensitivity to seize the opportunity and to designproducts quickly to meet consumers’ demand. In order to response to the market quickly, enterprises must take the lowest cost, the fastest speed, the best quality best service.Whether you can introduce new products in the first time has become a successful key.In order to shorten the development cycle when developing new product, designerscan do reforms and innovations on the existing knowledge. Based on the retrieval andreuse of existing knowledge, it shortens the product development cycle, reducesdevelopment cost and improves the design efficiency reliability of the product.First of all, design knowledge, new product development process, basic thought andmain characteristics of knowledge retrieval are discussed in this paper, the relationshipsand differences between knowledge retrieval and information retrieval are summarized, and several kinds of model are also introduced. Secondly, the theoretical basis ofknowledge retrieval (similarity theory) is researched. According to similarity procedure, adesign knowledge retrieval model based on similarity algorithm is established. In addition, the application of design knowledge retrieval in new product developmenthas been researched. With the understanding of types, parts and main technical parametersof manipulators, design technical parameters are chosen as the constraint condition of theretrieval. Firstly, encode all the technical parameters, establish knowledge database andknowledge retrieval platform to realize design knowledge retrieval. Finally, withinnovation and improvement of the acquired knowledge, we can develop new manipulator.
