At present, many manufacturing enterprises still adopt the traditional product development technologies which have already revealed their weak points such as being lack of the inheritance of design knowledge, lack of the continuance of design process so as to evaporate design knowledge. Those enterprises will surely lack the ability to compete at the global market and respond rapidly to the market demands. To solve this problem, the author of the dissertation has reviewed the product development technology, studied the integration product rapid development technology and researched systematically the related technologies such as function design and representation, design knowledge management, design knowledge reuse, rapid prototyping technology, and virtual prototyping. On this basis, he has proposed an integrated system and analyzed its implementing strategy. This research has obtained the following innovative results.1. The model representation of function, behavior and structure is studied and a three-dimensional method is established; their relationships are analyzed and a search strategy for function design is proposed.2. With the study on the representation of design knowledge as basis, a XML approach to representing design knowledge is represented. The exchange mechanism of mapping and information among XML, EXPRESS and C program language is studied.3. The concept of generalized design knowledge, its classification by object-oriented method and the classification design in UML are presented. On the basis of studying the representing design and obtaining method, a systematic implementing strategy of design knowledge management is worked out.4. Based on the similarity theory, the characteristics and the types of the design knowledge reuse are analyzed. The concepts of similarity degree, fulfillment degree and reuse degree, their calculating methods and an integration search methods based on CBR (Case-based Reasoning) are put forward. The systematical implementing strategy of design knowledge reuse is thus introduced.5. The concept of rapid prototyping service alliance is introduced. By analyzing the implementing technology of remote rapid prototyping service system, the network-centric virtual prototyping system based on PDM and its implementing strategy are presented.6. The approach to modeling product development and the related integrating technologies are explored. The integrating system based on design knowledge reuse and its implementing strategy is studied, out of which a system prototype is developed.The above results are verified by the case of rapid prototyping technology used for automotive power steering system.
