The Wuhan Magazine For The Construction Of The Wuhan City Image In The Process Of Urbanization

Wuhan is a city with history of3,500years, and has been the key transportation junction along the bank of Yangtze River ever since its foundation, which forms the urban image mainly featured with port culture. As the urbanization promoting after liberation, its area, together with population, is increasing year by year. Influenced by port culture negatively, Wuhan city performs its image as a "super county" for long. As the most important subject of Wuhan city, Wuhanese have distinctive features. On one hand, they have enthusiasm and personal loyalty. On the other hand, they are slightly eccentric and of low quality. The hottest topic Hanma is the mostly manifestation. Thus the status of Wuhan city can be summarized as follows:large city area, a key to the centre of nine provinces, and citizens with rough personality.As we know, to construct favorable image of a city consists of the joint efforts of the government, its residents, and the media. The author, therefore, in this essay, probes the construction of urban image by media, especially by analyzing the urban magazine--The Wuhan as a sample.Based on this, this essay will analyze how an urban magazine influences the image construction of a city, applying comprehensively the theories of Communication studies, journalism, and culturology, etc, together with the researches of theory analysisand text analysis, etc. This essay starts from the history of Wuhan and its urbanization, later on, discusses deeply the relationship between an urban magazine and the image of a city. Next, it employs means of content analysis and text analysis to analyze the contents and dialogues, etc, in The Wuhan, with its aim at how to construct the urban image of Wuhan. At last, there are some suggestions on the problems and defects in the development of the magazine The Wuhan, in order to provide the constructive opinion for the construction of our urban image.
