With the rapid development of Information Technology, computer teaching has becomean important part of quality-oriented education. Seen from the yearly job fair, employers havehigher and higher requirement on the computer level of graduates. Moreover, a goodcommand of computer knowledge is the necessary skill when graduates serve their work units.College Computer Basis enables students to have a systematic understanding of the basics ofcomputer, and allows them to master basic computer skills. But in many cases the teaching ofCollege Computer Basis encounters great difficulties owning to the specific reason of themore or less repetition with the course of IT offered in primary and secondary schools. Hencemany potential college students have some basic knowledge about computer and mistakenlybelieve that the course offered in college is no sweat, which makes them lose interest with lessparticipation in the classroom. The author has taught the course at Jilin Police College for twoyears since March,2010. According to personal experience, College Computer Basis mayquickly lose the advantage of attractiveness with students’ lost interests, distractions and nooptimism teaching effect, if the traditional teaching method is not changed. Then what kind ofmeasures should be taken to change present situation? The author thinks we must renewteaching ideas, change teaching models and innovate teaching methods. Most of all, teachingmodes must be changed so as to stimulate students’ interests and make them participate inclassroom activities. What kind of teaching model would be suitable for current college students? With thequestions the author consults lots of books and studies many theories. By combining the twoyears’ teaching experience at Jilin Police College, the author discovers that the teachingmodel based on task-driven is more appropriate for college computer teaching. With thisteaching model, students become participants and operators instead of bystanders and teachersserve as supervisors and mentors, which could greatly cultivate students’ interests in learning, help students build divergent thinking of learning, and nurture students’ independentinnovative ability and cooperative capability.
