IPTV, also known as Interactive-TV, is the fusion of traditional TV technology and modern Internet technology. Its all-digital and bi-directional communication nature brings revolutionary changes in the way people watch TV. As a popular instance of the new media industry, the promising business potentials of IPTV are being developed. Due to China’s special nature, IPTV business has suffered from the wrestling between the telecom side and the broadcasting side. Company L has implemented an innovative business model, also known as the "Yunnan Paradigm" to put telecom operator and broadcasting authority into collaboration in a shared risks and benefits fashion. Taking company L as subject, this article studies its IPTV set-top box (STB) management approaches and discovers problems. Countermeasures are provided in this article to improve management efficiency and reduce costs.After analyzed the business model and IPTV STB management approaches of company L, this article gives countermeasures to those management problems respectively, inspired by theories of supply chain management and inventory management. In the inventory management section, computer simulation comes up with a70percent improve in stock when approaches from this article are applied. To tackle the IPTV STB management problems thoroughly, this article gives long-term advices from the value-net perspective.
