With the popularization of information technology and network technology, information transmission has became more and more rapid and convenient, and the information requirements of users have presented diversification and personality characteristics. This change has resulted in the opportunity and challenge to the service of university archives. However the current service of most university archives is still at low level, the reason is that traditional information service mode of university archives can’t meet the multilateral information needs of users under digital environment, such as narrow archives coverage, insufficient service ability, weak public service awareness, traditional and unitary service means lack of innovation. Therefore university archives need to innovate service modes actively, and extend service functions under digital circumstance.This paper defines archives information service mode as four components: service object, service provider, service resources and service means, using mode research method from British sociologist Denis McQuail For reference. Using these four elements as frame it analyzes the reality of information service in university archives, summarizes the current problems. Based on the advanced experience of digital information service abroad university archives, this paper presents the strategies to improve service level and enhance service ability. This paper includes five chapters just as follows. Chapter1:Introduction.This part states the research background, significance, content, methods, technical route, and defines the research object clearly, then sums up the innovation points.Chapter2:Investigation and research on the reality of information service in university archives of our country. Based on the questionnaire survey, network survey, and field survey of information service mode in our university archives, including service object, service provider, service resources and service means, the existing problems are summarized, such as lack of characteristic and high quality resources, insufficient ability of university archives, weak public service awareness, traditional and unitary service means.Chapter3:Experience reference of digital information service abroad university archives. Based on the network survey of archival websites of the Ivy League, advantages in service object, service provider, service resources and service means are described, such as integrative management of archives, books and materials, abundant and high quality collections, combination of service depth and breadth, diversiform and personalized service means.Chapter4:Development countermeasures of digital information service in university archives. Based on the Status analysis and experience reference, the paper presents development countermeasures for digital information service in university archives, including extension of the public user groups, integration of university archives, museums, and libraries, construction of the resource system of quaternity formation of Multi-level service system as One body two wings.Chapter5:Conclusion. The main points and shortcomings of this paper are summarized in this chapter.The research on information service modes of university archives is desired to provide reference for the innovation of digital archives information service, so that the service level and ability can be improved, and the archives information service can aim at scientific and effective development.
