Radio frequency identification (RFID) is a kind of automatic and non-contactidentification techniques, which basic principle is using the RF signal and free spacecoupling transmission characteristic to capture information achieving automaticallyidentify objects. Passive UHF RFID tag has become a key kind of RFID that most beappropriate for RFID industry for its low cost and long operation range. With thedevelopment of technology, the applications of UHF RFID increasing rapidly andwidely, it will become one of the fundamental technologies in the future informationsociety construction.The design of high performance UHF RFID is a challenge. In order to improve theperformance and operation range of the tag, the design of power supply system for tagchip is the key point and one of the most important solution. According to the systemapplication demands, this dissertation focuses on the design and realization of the powersupply system for passive UHF RFID tag chip.This dissertation has particularly analyzed in detail about each module of the RFIDchip, and analyzed the requirement of power. Based on the application of demands andthe accumulation of technology, a high efficiency and low-voltage low-power powersupply system architecture is proposed for UHF RFID tag chip. According to thearchitecture’s design target, each module of the power supply system is analyzed anddesigned in detail, including rectifier circuits, base band power supply circuits,EEPROM power supply circuits, and the layouts are presented. At last a taping outscheme is presented.The whole chip has been taped out under the TSMC0.18μm1P4M RF Mix Signalprocess line for verification. Also measurement method has been introduced in thisdissertation. After the test based on the chip, this dissertation introduced the analysisbetween the measurements results and design target.According to the low-voltage and low-power design, the tag that using this powersupply system can work at a long range, the distance can reach7m at read mode and3mat write mode respectively.
