In recent years, china’s food safety incidents happened frepuently. From "Jinhua ham" event to "big head baby" incident, from "tonyred one" event to "Sanlu milk powder" event, from tainted steamed buns to shuanghui "clenbuterol" incident, food safety issues continue to stimulate the sensitive nerve of the public. With China’s economic and social development and structural transformation, and since the year of2003China’s per capita GDP exceed$1000for the first time, according to the western risk theory, our society has entered a period of high incidence of accidents or prone to accidents,"Chinese social risk context" has formed.Combined with the theory of risk society, this article will study reports of national network media about food safety incidents to the longitudinal and transverse level, intending to analyze the status of the network media coverage of food safety incidents, that is what a media picture has built, and then rethinking the role and functions of the mass media.Based on the framework of constructivism and the theory of agenda setting, this article will study representative network media reports about major food satefy incidents, combining quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis. Special reports of "big head baby" incident," Sanlu milk powder" event and shuanghui " Clenbuterol" event from people.com.cn and xinhuanet.com are the selected cases, according to stratified sampling.By the statistical analysis of selected cases in five aspects of report quantity, sources, theme and way, and widely combined with other network media reports about food safety incidents, we find that the network media reports of food safety incidents has shown a good trend of meeting the right to know, more real and the power of the media, while there are also some defects in false reports, media panic and warning vacancy. In view of the deficiency, the author has put forward three inprovement suggestions:adhering to the concept of professionalism, balancing coverage and guiding rationally, participating in the construction of social morality.
