As a new information acquisition and processing technology, wireless sensor network(WSN)has a wide range of applications in military, environmental monitoring, smartfurniture and space exploration and so on.Wireless Sensor Network can be described as anautonomy system consisting of lots of sensor nodes designed to intercommunicate by wirelessradio, and it can collaborate in real time monitoring, perceiving and collecting information ofvarious environmental or monitoring objects, and transfer this information to the basestation. It does not need a fixed network support, and it has rapid employment, survivability, and other characteristics,so it has a good application prospect. This thesis firstly elaborates several mainstream routing protocols for WSN andresearches on the factors that influence the design of routing protocols. Some performanceevaluation standards of WSN routing protocol are then discussed, on this basis, a detailedanalysis of the working principles, algorithms, and energy-saving problems of LEACH (LowEnergy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy) routing protocol has been given. The advantages anddisadvantages of the protocol are also pointed out. The LEACH protocol was simulated byOPNET simulation platform. Finally, an improved algorithm based on LEACH Protocol, two-layer cluster headLEACH Protocol (EACH-TLCH) has been given, and the improved protocol was simulatedby Matlab simulation platform. Simulation results show that the network life is extended, thetotal energy consumption is reduced and the convergence of the new algorithms is also muchbetter than LEACH Protocol.
