Intelligent lighting system is an automatic system which can control lamps effectivelyaccording to the present situation without or less human intervention. Thus the control modeand topology of intelligent lighting system is discussed firstly, the characteristics and protocolspecification of the CAN bus is analyzed secondly, at last a distributed intelligent lightingsystem based on CAN bus is designed in this article. On this basis, the shortcomings oftraditional building automation (BA) system that high cost, simple control structures, and cannot adjust according to the actual situation is resolved. The system uses double layer structure, the upper using a computer to manage and control, the lower using the CAN bus to communicate. Intelligent nodes installed in the appropriate areadistributed via CAN bus. CAN-Ethernet gateway is used to connect upper and lower to switchEthernet to CAN bus. It also be used to control the branch of the CAN bus. Intelligent lightingsystem uses LPC11C14single chip microcomputer in series of COTEX-M0as MCU. In thisarticle, input/output intelligent nodes, A/D intelligent nodes and dimming intelligent nodes aredesigned and connected by CAN bus to realize hardware connection. At the same time, thedrivers of the nodes, the communication software and main software are analyzed.Intelligent lighting system based on CAN bus is an intelligent system which can operatelamps independently for lighting needs. It controls lightings intelligently through the CAN busintelligent nodes by distributed control system, not only to achieve a variety of lighting effects, but also reduces energy consumption, saving costs. It has practical applications in schools, hotels, companies, and large venues.
