LED lighting has aroused wide concern for its excellent luminous properties and energy-saving, environmental protection features. The government has listed LED lighting as a key development area and gave strong support on the policy. The lighting industry is on the cusp of a huge transformation which from traditional lighting to LED lighting.LED is a feature-sensitive semiconductor device. Constant-current driver is needed to protect LED and keep its working state stability. High quality constant-current driver is the key to keep LED longevity and efficient. With the popularization of LED lighting, higher requirements were proposed in the solution of the LED driver chip. This has brought LED driver chip industry both great opportunities and challenges. For different applications, to design a high efficiency, high power factor, high reliability, high electromagnetic compatibility, smart, controllable, LED driver IC is the industry trends and direction.This paper focus on the research of delay control mode and constant on-time control mode of the LED drive and designed a novel LED drive with these two modulation mode based on the0.25um60V BCD process. Firstly, the LED working characteristics and driving mode was introduced, especially the current constant working characteristics. Secondly, the chip of this paper was designed. According to the simulation report, this chip can provide1A current, work frequency500KHz and effecience can reach97.8%. Thirdly, the BCD process and layout design of this chip was described. Some design details was carefully considered to make sure the chip meets with the design requirement. Now, this chip have finished the tape-out and prepared to package and test.The chip designed in this thesis has the advantage of small size, high level of integration (internal integration1.5A NMOS power transistor), wide input voltage range (6V~54V), high efficiency, simple application circuit. Meanwhile, the chip also has the PWM dimming, the output open circuit and short circuit protection, power tube under-voltage protection, output over-current protection, over temperature protection. These features and functions enable the chip can be widely used in interior decoration and lighting, automotive lighting, public lighting and other fields.
