Remote automatic meter reading system is the remote and real-time process control system by way of power data acquisition, analysis, and transmission processing. Based on ZigBee, this paper presents a more convenient and effective Remote Meter Reading system. It bases on the automatic meter reading system in current times and the application in our country and outside. And also it involves the ways of signal transmission--both wired and wireless, the ease of implementation, and the ease of maintenance etc.Remote automatic meter reading system, based on ZigBee, belongs to the wireless transceiver system which is based on the CC1100RF transceiver chip; This system realizes wireless data communications by way of ZigBee network which is constructed by mounts of wireless equipments spread in every unit of district, and in this way it transports the power data to the monitoring center for analysis. The system contains the monitoring center, the concentrator, the collector and the intelligent ammeter. The concentrator is the center node of the network:on the one hand, it communicates with the control center through the upper channel by the aide of GPRS network; on the other hand, it makes possible the communication through the lower channel on the basis of the ZigBee network which is constructed by the CC1100radio transceiver chip and the collector. Between monitoring center and concentrator, the star-like network is presented, formed by concentrator and collector, The construction of network can be star-like, tree-like or mesh-like topological structure, and concentrator and collector realize communication by wireless.Remote Meter Reading system, based on ZigBee, is more complex in topological structure and protocol than the traditional Wireless Meter Reading system; however, the ZigBee protocol, firstly, is based on the physical layer of low-rate Wireless PAN and media access control protocol of IEEE802.15.4; the protocol works in the ISM band of868M,915M, and2.4GHz; its rate of data transmission is up to250kbps. Secondly, the wireless technology of ZigBee can meet the requirements of data transmission frequency, the number of nodes, transmission distance in the networks of lower-frequency of transmission, complication of construction, lower dissipation of power, and lower cost; and it can reduce both the energy consumption and the cost of the wireless meter reading and also improves its reliability and safety. In a word, this paper, based on existing experimental conditions, try to analyze the building of the hardware for remote meter reading system and the test of hardware and software module of it. There are two kinds of networks structures, including point-to-point and star-like topological. This paper has finished the test the process of their nodes joining the network and data communication. The final results verify the feasibility of the module and the protocol.
