After entering the new century, industrial and agricultural production is developing rapidly. Theelectricity is one of the most important power supply resources for manufacturing enterprises,therequirement of how to use electric energy was greatly changed during the social development. It ischangeing from the traditional merely “read and charge” to a automatic and intelligent way.The wayof manual oprationg is inefficient and laborious, it obviously can’t satisfy these needs. Along with thecomputer technology and communication technology development, the realization of automatic meterreading system gets its possibility. The realtime electric consumption of enterprise、the quality of theelectricity and the its management is needed and there are necessary conditions for therealization.Based on the research of the related products, the design of the system is proposed.This paper expounded the disadvantages of the traditional way of meter reading,compared theseveral ways of the information transmission in use,and identified the two levels of RS-485bus forapplication at last. Tthe PC software, concentrater and data acquisition module is designed.Thesystem is able to realize the data acquisition, transmission and generate the curve of powerconsumption precisely to each hour and calculate the loss during transmission. For solving theproblem of the sum processing time of so many nodes being too long, a method of master stationaquisiting the concentraters and concentraters circularly aquisiting the slave stations is proposed,meanwhile, the extensional communication protocol is designed,the efficiency of the operatin ishugely improved. The paper also analyzed various factors to impact of the reliability ofcommunication; failure rate will be reduced by implementing corresponding measures.A system with small structure is set up in the laboratory to realize software and hardwaredebugging. Not only the system can be used in manufacturing enterprises, but also can be applied inwater meter, gas meter information collection, as well as district power acquisition, monitoring andmanagement.
