This paper presents the basic construction of automated meter reading system. The Automatic Meter Reading System is used as an intelligence management system based on the theory of remote data reading and transfer. By being able to remotely read the meter, a meter reader is able to reach hard locations. This saves time and manpower. Because it is an electronic solution, leak and tamper detection are possible. Overall the time and manpower savings mean better than the previous reading method. The development process and characteristics of automated meter reading system are briefly analyzed, which is made up of the communication channels, i.e. dedicated line, radio and power-line carrier. This paper presents the system structure, the hardware structure and the program flow chart of the concentrator and the gather. The theory and application design of Meter-bus, RS-485 and Power line communication is described as well. Including the principle and application of wireless receiving chip about bus line, the exchange interface circuit communicating with M-bus bus line, the principle and application of the collector module, the design of software about data gathering module and so on; Design of concentrator module including circuit connecting design, working design of concentrator and so on.With the progress of technique and the higher request of people's demanding on information, interllectual architecture will be applicated in all the nation. The main functions of the interllectual area can be implemented in safty, effectivity. Automatic wireless meter reading system is impletation of interllectual architecture, and will be applicated in the future.
