Widespread range and geographical distribution are the key characteristics of logistics army. Therefore, promoting and implementing remote monitoring system have great significance on enhancing the security and stability of the military. Identifying how to resolve the issues, which are caused by wide range and geographical distribution of the monitoring points, and timely feedback the information to the people in charge are the key points of designing the remote monitoring system.Based on the brief analysis of the current domestic and international long-distance monitoring technology and application, this paper proposes to design a GPRS based remote monitoring system. GPRS network’s advantages, which are wide coverage, good transmission performance, high embedded performance and low-power, are fully utilized in this design. In order to remotely monitor targets, this system, which are built based on ARM Linux as the system platform and MC35i GPRS module as the communication module, captures the graphic and physical information of the remote objects and transfers the information via MMS messages through GPSR network.For hardware design, this system, which takes ARM920T S3C2410chip as the system processor, compares the information timely detected by the remote temperature, smog and infrared sensors to the historical data captured recently. Then system sends out the order of collecting graphic information to the site. When site responses back the images, system sends the warning information with the images to the mobile users. This solution adopts trigger monitoring mode to reduce the requirements of data network’s bandwidth and capacity and improved the feasibility of applying GPRS based data transmission.For software, this system is mainly programmed based on ARM BootLoader and analysis of embedded Linux to enable the connections and functions of each module.Experiments show that this system retaliate the function of remote monitoring. It is very compact and easy to use, furthermore, its cost is relatively low. so it has a good application prospect.
