The Frame-theory-based Analysis Upon The News Reports About Chineses Western Region In People’s Daily

The Chinese western region have been the focus of the media since the central government launched the campaign of the western development ten years ago. Ten years later, the central government’s new promotion for the campaign constitutes both opportunities and challenges for the news media. It is of great practical significance both for the government’s decision-making on the policies of western development and for news media to do the research on the news reports about Chineses western region.The thesis selects People’s Daily, the most influential and authoritative newspaper in China, as its research object. Based on the frame theory, this article summarizes the frame characteristics of the report fields, information channels, report subjects, report form and the report tone in People’s Daily, by means of statistical sampling and content analysis over the related news reports on western region from2001to2010, which then analyzes the causes of the frame formation.It is found that news reports on the western region in People’s Daily compose an obvious political-economic framework which prefers achievements of governments, due to its status of party newspaper and supports the central and local governments and their relevant policies. From the perspective of communication theory, it is proved that the frame formation of news reports about western region has deep theoretical causes, such as the theory of communication bias, the theory of propaganda mode, the theory of the uses and satisfactions of readers, and the theory of stereotype. Finally, according to the characteristics and motivation of the frame, the thesis proposes corresponding countermeasures. It is hoped that the research can help to improve the news reports about western regions in the future and give full play to the news media in the campain of western development.
