Web celebrity is the Star produced by Internet users in the virtual world, they are homegrown andnever been packed but can attract thousands of eyes attention in a short time, this unique phenomenon haveto cause people’s attention.In our country, the web celebrity is appeared basically with the birth of the Internet media, it has ahistory of over10years, As a unique group they can not only reflect the current Internet users demand andmind, but also manifested the contemporary political, cultural, and economic change of our county.However, the investigation of the web celebrity of scholars before is mainly about individual cases, thesystematic research is still less.Web celebrity, has a history of over10years, but in academia, the definition of this concept is still notvery accurate: on the one hand, it is due to the rapid development of Internet technology; on the other hand,about the web celebrity phenomenon from the initial stage of the text to the multimedia era there are a lotof new changes. This lead to the concept of web celebrity also constantly updated. On the basis of theinspection results of previous studies, the author gives the new definition of the web celebrity: the so-calledweb celebrity, on the Internet active or passive releases the person’s information, acts, works, and a largenumber of Internet users are concerned about the spread of theirs, so that the person has a high awarenessin the Network Society, and the person may be the individuals or groups. The particular note is the virtualhuman, where individuals or groups can be true or may only exist in the network, at the same time, thestarting point of the web celebrity and stage of development must be in the Internet.This paper tries to explore intrinsic reason of web celebrity. The first part is the grasp of the externalfeatures of the web celebrity, mainly includes concept definition, development phase analysis and summarycharacteristics. The second part is the main body of the article, In the process of the first part of webcelebrity external analysis of the characteristics and research combined with the theory the researchcombined with the theory of western culture and points out the web celebrity entertainment characteristics,and through the quantitative analysis of the audience to sum up the psychological characteristics andchanging demand of the audience. The last is social cultural context analysis of web celebrity, including the change of time theme, consumerism and the prominence of mass culture. The third part points out that thephenomenon of social network celebrities’ active significance and negative effects and the attitude to theweb celebrity.Although web celebrity appear only in a short time, but as a social phenomenon it has more or lesscontact with all aspects of the society. In this paper the research comprehensive use of the theory andmethod of journalism and communication, cult urology, sociology and psychology, in order to have deepunderstanding and grasping of this problem.
