As the globalization is coming, city is facing severe challenges in fierce competition,and some elements such as politics, economics and culture have been put in thisnon-smoke battlefield, therefore, as the concentrated expression of city’s software andhardware resource, the image of city is being paid more and more attention. As themost important intermediary, medium is not only playing the role of showing theimage of city, it also shapes the image by itself. This essay is based on the relationshipbetween medium and the image of city, and research on the two issue, by analyzingtheir relationship to summarize the whole process of shaping and expressing theimage of city by medium.At first, this essay generalizes the current situation of city’s image expression, andpoints out the achievement and mistakes of our country in this field, then it introducesmedium of city expression, defining concepts, generalizing social functions, analyzingthe operation mode. Secondly, it establishes the city’s image expression system whichbased on Lasswell’s “5W” mode, and analyzes the expression process through fiveissues of city’s image expression which are communicator, content, medium, audienceand the effect. At last, it gives specific strategies of city’s image expression. Thethought of this essay is carried on bye the step of combining concept—analyzingtheory—establishing principle—giving premise—strategies implement, and this essayaims to suggest city’s image expression on the base of theory inheritance and thoughtinnovation, so that we could predict the trend of city’s image expression, and givehelpful consultation to the builder of city’s image expression.
