More and more people get city image from city itself which can be seen as a medium carrying all kinds of message. From the angle of city medium, popular media such as outdoor advertising media and city mass media should be considered as the content of city medium.The thesis studies city as medium and analyzes the elements and logic of the City Medium proposition from macroscopical medium analysis theory and dialectic way. From the basic of communication theory, the study covered the city medium identity, the communication factors, the communication mode and the medium theory of city medium. Moreover, the paper provides an angle of view to construct city image by using city medium theory.The research can be divided into 4 chapters; the most important part is chapter II. According to the logical way of argument: advance questions, analyze questions and solve questions, this thesis develops from following four dimensions: basic theory of city medium, analysis of city medium communication factors, research on communication mode and medium theory and how to improve our city image by using the City Medium theory.
