Grain is the material basis for man’s survival and the safekeeping of it is of vital importance. So there is a need to monitor the real-time environment parameters of the barn where the grain is stored and take appropriate measures accordingly. In the past, the workers had to enter each barn at regular intervals to get information such as temperature and humidity at the time, which is laborious and time-consuming. Since the1990s people began to use computers to regulate the environment monitoring system thanks to the rapid development of computer technology and the Internet. The environment data obtained from the barn are transmitted automatically to a computer for storage, processing and analysis. Thus the labor intensity is greatly reduced, the data obtained are more prompt and operation of the equipments in the barn like electric fans can be controlled automatically. Currently, the data stored in the monitoring system are mainly transmitted through cables, which inevitably lays bare its intrinsic shortcomings. It may be difficult to ensure later maintenance and development for some big barns because their cables are intricately laid. Moreover, the cables are apt to age with the passage of time and it will be costly to have all the cables replaced by new ones. The afore-mentioned system is being applied in recent years in fields such as medicine and industrial control due to the fast progress in wireless web technology and sensor technology. The thesis puts forward a environment monitoring system based on ZigBee. By automatically sampling with sensors the environment parameters inside the barn and transmitting with ZigBee the data in a wireless way, the system can avoid various trouble arising from cabled monitoring system, reduce the labor intensity, and enhance the reliability of itself as well as the level of automation. The thesis first gives an account of the current development situation of environment monitoring system of the barn and analyzes the demand for the system. Then it goes on to provide a design for the overall structure of the said system, hardware structure at each node and software theoretical basis. After this, the thesis moves on to network and debug the whole system. Finally, the thesis brings to pass a miniature environment monitoring system of the barn. The system can monitor the barn on a real-time basis via a visualized platform and establishes a corresponding database. The nodes in the system are made from CC2430RF chips and a controller has been integrated. Sensors DS18B20and SHT11are used to sample the data of the temperature and humidity in the barn. For the sake of easy operation and energy saving, No.7batteries are used as energy sources at each node. A deep analysis is made of Z-Stack owned by the company TI, which is transplanted to the chip CC2430.By way of trial and error, the building of the environment monitoring system in the barn is completed, digital transmission between nodes is realized. Meanwhile, a brief analysis is made of the process to build the network. With the building of the system some problems arising in cabled monitoring system can be solved, and some insights are provided for the application and popularization of the environment monitoring system in the barn.
