| Chinese sports has a long history.However, modern sports as competitive sports were introduced to China from the West. This paper attempts to take sports reports which were in the modern reports as the research object to analysis the development of modern competitive sports. And then take the major sports events reports which in the authoritative newspaper of the Republic of China The Shun Pao and Ta Kung Pao for example, try to reveal the significance of modern sports which the media rendered.The whole paper is composed of five parts. The first part includes the context, purpose, significance, literature and innovation. The second part focuses on the relationship between media and sports as well as the examples and indicators this paper designed. The third part, the fourth part divies the development of Chinese sports into different stages. This part analysis The Shun Pao and Ta Kung Pao in every stage as well as Chinese sports showing on these sports publications, then the major sports events research can be studied in stages. This three parts analyses media mirroring of morden Chenese sports by studying major sports events reported on The Shun Pao and Ta Kung Pao, mainly to the reports of the Far Eastern Championship Games, National Games and the Olympic Games. This paper found that the reports of Far Eastern Championship Games was mainly characterized by the process of Chinese sports’development and the relationship between modern Chinese sports and the life of the nation. The reports of National Games can reflect the thinking of sports at that time, and the relationship between politics and sports. The reports of the Olympic Games can analysis the relationship between mordern Chinese sports and the position of international issues. The sixth part analysis the development trend of China’s modern sports according to the indicators. The seventh part, conclusion section, summarizes the media image of the modern Chinese sports, the role that modern media plays during the development of competitive sports and the references it provide for today.We find that the Media workers’ideas were throughout the modern sports reports, and these ideas can reflect the characteristics of sports of that period. Which is more important is that these ideas played a guiding role in the development of modern competitive sports. Under the action of media, modern sports is showing some features:"winner takes all" become very popular, political Sports prevailed, media sports reports build the "imagined community" for people, the feelings that the reports reflect of different sports are very different too. These features are still faintly visible in today’s reports, but some of the features are changed in today’s reports, it can provide some reference for today’s media reports. |
