A Study Of Network Reading Of University And College Students In The City Of Hefei

With the development of internet and electronical sciences and technologies, network reading has become a trend for university and college students in their daily life. In this thesis, the network reading of university and college students are analyzed; the types, characteristics and manners of network reading are stated. Emphasis is given from five aspects on possible problems that university and college students may encounter during their reading, such that they can improve the reading abilities and quality and network reading can progress healthily in the future. All search is conducted on network readings of students of five universities in the city of Hefei in Anhui Province, including undergraduates and graduates, in theoretical and practical ways. This thesis mainly covers the following aspects:First, an introduction is given on the features of this ongoing internet era, its increasing rates in latest years, and its impact on people’s reading habits; reading and network reading; the definition and meanings of reading, together with the types, implications, characteristics and manners of network reading. Second, network reading of university and college students are categorized in different types according to the purposes of network reading. Based on the above analysis, the network reading of students in five universities(University of Science and Technology of China, Anhui University, HeFei University of Technology, Anhui Agricultural University, and Anhui University of Architecture) is surveyed, especially on the reading details and impacting factors of the reading. By analysing network reading of the students in representing universities in Hefei, we found some problems concerning the network reading of university and college students:they focus too much on recreational contents; they read only occasionally on their leisure time; their abilities on searching useful information are not satisfying; their lack a discretion of network security, etc. To target these problems, we proposed some corresponding strategies listed in the following:university and college students need to enhance their learning, virtues, and knowledges, to employ suitable methods, and to improve their abilities on network security inspecting and information searching; the society is responsible to provide a positive internet reading environment by inspecting network information and by lowering the cost of network reading; university libraries should try to provide more network reading resources to satisfy the needs of their students, and provide an network library optimized for mobile-device reading. The research gives rise to a practical and comprehensive understanding of network reading of university and college students, and a foundation to improve the management of university libraries and public libraries in Hefei, such as to provide a healthy supporting environment for network reading of university and college students in Hefei.
