The speed of information dissemination is faster than before in the world. New media age has usheredinto a new era. The rise of new media age, led by network, makes the traditional newspaper industry facinga fierce competition. American scholar Philip Mayer’s The Vanishing Newspaper aroused a discussionabout “Newspaper Dying”. Facing with unprecedented competition and a severe situation, the traditionalnewspaper industry has launched reform. As executor and vital factor of newspaper industry reform,newspaper editors play an irreplaceable role in the age of new media.Newspaper editors need innovate to show their value in the reform of newspaper industry. There aremore and more research and discussion about the editors’ innovation. The newspapers which maintain theirown vitality and charm will survive in the reform. Newspaper editors will take more responsibilities toboost the change and development of newspaper and to enhance its vigor and vitality. Editorial innovationis the editors’ inherent social responsibility and cultural mission. It is also the newspaper’s corecompetitiveness.The purpose of this paper is to explore the main factors of newspaper editors’ innovation, includingideas, roles, contents, forms and advantages of new media. It will inspire new innovative experiencesthrough studying and inducing the achievement of some newspaper editors in Henan province. This paperwill propose the solutions to the problems in newspaper complication now.In the new media age, each newspaper should take some scientific measures to cultivate innovativeediting talents to deal with competition and challenge. Newspaper editors should have creative spirit andcourage to realize innovative goals. Under the effect of editors, newspapers will thrive in the future.
