In recent years, owing to the serious health distresses caused by the lifestyle in the industrialized system, combined with the frequent occurrence of public health crisis, widespread of the civilization diseases, continuous increase medical expenses and the intensification of aging population problem, the demand for health information has increased greatly unprecedented, then an attendant huge market for public health books is coming. With the sell like hot cakes of "The health to express" in2002as its starting point, public health books presented a complete development track as "rise-prosper-drop-mature" from2002to2011. In the ten years of its development, due to business interests drive, lax publishing unit checking, lacking of functional department supervision, many pseudo-health experts and health fallacy find its way to spread widely, what’s the worse, while the readers who is unaware of the truth trust the fallacy blindly, they will have a serious impact on their health, furthermore, it will generate a serious impediment to the normal and orderly development of health books. For the reason of this, this paper carried out a research on the credibility of public health books with the hoping of proceeding with a completely research of the credibility of public health books in Mainland China, providing a reference for readers when they are purchasing this kind of books, furnishing a guidance for the publishing and standardization of public health books.In this thesis, public health books mainly refer to books whose content is tightly related to physical health and target audience is the general public. This paper considers the credibility of public health books including three aspects as follows: credibility of the source, credibility of the content or information and credibility of the modality, and each aspect has its corresponding dimensions of composition and performance. On the basis of above analysis, this paper takes the monthly bestseller list of "China Book Business Daily" and annual book bestsellers on Dangdang net as its accordance, summarizes public health best selling books consistent with the definition which is published in the years from2002to2011, conducts a systematic review of the actual performance of their credibility and ponders over the existing problems. Combined of reality and related theories, this paper recommends for the health books publishing to maintain its credibility in the fierce market competition, aiming to achieve a win-win predicament of economic and social benefits.
