Due to the increasing urban population and the intensive trend in urban transportation, people are raising new request on Intelligent Transportation. And as the’nerve endings’of transportation network, intelligent vehicle terminal is having a rapid development. On one side, the terminal should inheritate the stablebility of vehicle devices, while on the other side, as the diversification and complication in data collection, intelligent, integrated, high-capacity has became of new trend of vehicle terminall, which also match the trend of handheld intelligent devices. This paper design and implement a multi-function intelligent terminal according to the all kinds of features required by Intelligent Transportatoin combined with basic terminal features. It is based on an extensible Linux system on an embedded platform. The terminal not only works as the data source, but also minitor the running status of the bus vehicle, and supports the extensible functions, such as stop announcement, alert and so on. So the usual several deivices needed come up to one only. Besides, thanks to the integrity, the different function can have interaction between each other, which make it possible for high-level function such as auto stop announcement, auto vehicle monitoring, and driver management. These help cut down the management cost while raising the efficiency, providing solid reliability for exception alert and safe driving, which is also the future trend of new vehicle technology. The paper gives out the background and the goal of this task, and introduces the system building tools and relevant techniques. It carries out Intellignet Transprotation terminal requirement analysis and its feasibility according to the relationship between the terminal and ITS. The paper gives out the system architecture of terminal design and the detailed implementation of terminal modules. It also illustrates the deployment and schedule to test terminal, as well as typical test cases. The last part of the paper tells about and dicusses what could be researched at next stage.
