To meet the increasing demand of broadband, the requirements of the light module is also higher than before. The high rate, miniaturization, low power consumption, intelligent, is the development trend of the technology of optical module is high rate, miniaturization, low power consumption and intelligent. XFP module has many advantages and stands out. The size of XFP optical module is only the half of the normal module and the power consumption can achieve less than 1.5W. It also has the digital monitor function and hot pluggable function, which makes maintenance work more simplified and network system more reliable. In addition, XFP optical module supports the transmission of low price, short distance and high performance, long distance, the range from 300m to 80km. The optical light superimposes fiber dispersion and noise after long transmission, which makes the OSNR tolerance decrease at receiver and judgment error increase. At the basis of analysis work principle and test XFP optical module, this paper puts forward the algorithm to improve the OSNR tolerance at receiver. The major work of the paper is as follows (Bold part is the innovative work):The composition and work principle of XFP optical module and international standards agreement rule are analysis theoretically. The whole work of XFP optical module is summarized, and work characteristics of the launch part and receive part is analysis. Expounded the diagnosis function and its agreement.Summarized the test parameters and procedures of XFP optical module, analyses the experimental data and characteristic curve and shared the things needed to pay attention at the test process. The parameters definition, test process and data analysis of the sending part and receiving part are given. System test, interfaces test, shaking and reliability test are introduced. Whether the optical module works well, optical interface and ESD injury such as these problems are shared.Presented a new algorithm to adaptive to improve the OSNR tolerance at the receiving end at the optical network. After analysis the relationship of the value of the FEC control register 76 bytes and BER, considering the factors such as convergence time and protect switch, proposed a new algorithm and given the algorithm flow chart. Applied the algorithm at the XFP optical module receiving end, it can improve the performance of OSNR tolerance about 1.5 dB.
