SOPC is a kind of flexible system which based on FPGA, so it can use FPGA to do the logic design, add a variety of hardware interfaces for the users and also do the high-speed digital signal processing. The FPGA design is fast, flexible and re-designable, so it can make the hardware design of SOPC more convenience for the designers. Designers can build the SOPC system in a certain size and configuration on FPGA, customer modules can be added to the system based on the underlying system architecture. While Altera’s Nios II processer has strong computing power, as the core of the SOPC system, it can enhance the development and design of the software projects by providing RTOS for designers.In this thesis, a design of Logo Inserter based on SOPC technology is presented, the whole system uses DDR2 SDRAM as the memory of SOPC to save the software code and user data. It also uses the HDMI interface to transmit and receive the video and audio signal. Meanwhile, it has the Gigabit Ethernet interface to enable the network transmission, and users can upload the logos by UDP network protocol. The whole system is combined by several function modules and can insert the logo into high definition video signal real time as well. The processing in this design will not damage any other pixel out of the area of the logo because the design uses the uncompressed video data, the system is also in a low cost and easy to use.
