Hdmi Interface Implementation And Application, In The Dvd System

HDTV is coming to everybody's house, which will cause a revolution named "digital home". The specification for the interface to the HDTV is an important part of the whole specification for HDTV. At the end of 2002, the HDMI Specification Version 1.0 released. HDMI is the only transmission interface that can send uncompressed digital audio and video stream by single line.It is necessary for the development of the DVD player to introduce the HDMI technique to the DVD player as the interface of the digital media transmission. ZORAN Co. will release a DVD reference design with the HDMI interface, Vaddis?778. It uses the DVD decoder chip ZR36778 and HDXtreme chip ZR36721.I was fortunate to participate in this project adding a SW module to support HDMI transmission, including EDID reading and HDCP encryption, based on the ZORAN DVD player reference design and the specification of ZR36721.This thesis is based on my work in ZORAN Co.. First, we introduce the HDMI specification and compare it with the DVI, and then discusse the whole process of design which adds a new SW module on the ZORAN DVD player reference design to support HDMI. At the last, we analyze the resolution limitation of DVD and the reason why we have HD-JPEG. We discusse the display process of HD-JPEG and improve the DCT decoder arithmetic to decrease the JPEG decoding time. The new arithmetic is called PPRT (Perfect Precision Relax Transform). It uses displacement operation to do the picture encodeing and decoding instead of the multiplication operation. This method can improve the JPEG decodeing time and ensure the distortion of the picture is in the range that can be allowed.This SW module is used in the ZORAN DVD player with HDMI reference design, which released in 2005. And the customers, like TOSHIBA, Samsung, already mass producted the HD-DVD models with this feature.
