| Exercise instruction in comprehensive Chinese textbooks provides the studentswith the procedure and requirement of the tasks before doing exercise, thus, it playsan important role in the compilation of a textbook. However, according to the currentresearch results, although plenty of research studies the exercise in the textbook, fewresearchers focus on the instruction of exercise.This paper takes exercise instruction in Boya Chinese as main object of study. Intext analyzing, exercise instructions are divided into three types as Written Type,Question Type and Guiding Type, and features of form, task and new word of exerciseinstruction in different levels are observed. The class observation and questionnaireresults show that students of all levels meet with difficulty in understanding exerciseinstructions, and students need to be more encouraged to read Chinese exerciseinstruction. The main results of text analyzing and the survey are as follows:（1） Exercise instruction has long been neglected in the compilation of thetextbook, which urgently needs to be improved.（2） It should be aware by the authors that exercise instruction should be a guidefor the students using Chinese to understand what the exercise asks them todo.（3） The compilation of exercise instructions should match up to the Chineselevel of the students.（4） The compilation of exercise instructions should take both briefness andunderstandability into account, meanwhile, more types of instruction needto be developed in accord with the plentiful types of exercises.（5） Fewer new words should appear in exercise instructions and for the sametype of exercises in the textbook, same exercise instruction should be used.The data and conclusions collected in this paper may reflect the current situation of the usage of exercise instruction in comprehensive textbooks, which would be ofsome valuable reference for further research, while the questions discussed in thepaper could also lead to further concern and research. |
