Exercise is a very important part in the textbooks of teaching Chinese to speakers of other language.So the research on exercises of textbooks is very meaningful.We find a lot of scholars have already emphasized the important of exercises of textbooks.When they justify a textbook,they will consider the outline,lessons and words,besides,the exercise is the main part.So the exercise is a real significant topic.In this paper,the author investigates and analyzes exercises in two Chinese comprehensive textbooks which are very popular,one of it is earlier than another almost ten years.So in the paper,it will show some different in two textbooks.This research is based on the theory of teaching Chinese to speakers of other language and context theory.in the paper,it count the quantity of exercise type in the two books and compare the different.The research is divided into two parts: the first is the count the quantity of the types,and in this part,it point out that seven types of exercise such as the tonal discrimination,dialogue completion are very common in the textbooks.it also list the different types of exercise.The second part is the content of the exercise.We investigate these two textbooks and find some unsuitable dialogues and exercises.In this paper,it suggested that in the textbook of teaching Chinese to speaker of other language,the books may consider the context theory,and provide some context in the exercise,such as the context of dialogue,the role of the person,the culture meaning and so on.In the paper,it emphasize that setting a suitable context is really important,it will influence the effect of exercise and study.To summarize,this paper is a research of exercise in two comprehensive textbooks,it give some suggestions from the perspective of the theory of context.
