The underground pipeline is an important infrastructure of the city. Its safe operation is aguarantee of a modern city with high efficiency and high quality. It’s not only responsible forthe information transmission, energy transportation and so on, but also is the material basisfor the survival and development of the city. However, due to the difference of pipelineconstruction sectors and the difference of pipeline maintenance departments, the complexityof the underground pipeline lead to many unfavorable factors for the post-operations andmaintenance.Furthermore, management can not fully grasp the information of theunderground pipeline, so the maintenance and management of underground pipeline hasgradually become a "bottleneck" of urban development. Therefore, it’s particularly importantfor various projects’ planning, design and construction in the future urban development torealize the information management of urban underground pipeline and comprehensivelygrasp the status of the underground pipeline.According to the software development process, this paper aims at the informationmanagement of urban underground pipeline and develops Yangling Demonstration Zone’sunderground pipeline information system based on ArcGIS Engine by needs analysis, overalldesign, detailed design, system implementation, etc. The system uses three-tier architecturewith the system running mode of C/S and adopts the secondary development platformthrough combining C#with ArcEngine. It establishes Yangling Demonstration Zone’sunderground pipeline information system database and inputs the part of the undergroundpipeline data. At the same time, it also builds some simple models of three-dimensionalpipeline. In this system, database uses Oracle10g to store objects and adopts ArcSDE as aconnection bridge, integrating ArcGIS with spatial database technology. It is proved that thesystem has a certain practicality and can realize the underground pipeline informationmanagement by running.
