Zigbee, developed by Zigbee Alliance, is very low-cost, very low power consumption, two-way, wireless communication standard[1]. Solutions adopting the Zigbee standard will be embedded in consumer electronics, home and building automation, industrial controls, medical sensor application, and so on.Solution in this paper will put the Zigbee standard in the use of monitoring system, and is called WIRELESS MONITORING SYSTEM. In addition, Networking is one of the most important trends of the modern monitoring system, and is also a necessary requirement for the customers. So, the other part of the solution is designing a network terminal to provide a bridge between Internet and the Wireless Monitoring System.At the first of this paper, some basic knowledge and backgrounds of Monitoring System and Wireless Communication will be introduced briefly. The Zigbee Standard is presented followed. Based on these, the method of designing the Zigbee platform is given, including the hardware design and the software design.As is referred in the first paragraph, the Network Terminal is the other part of the whole system. After comparing kinds of solutions of Network Terminal, we chose ARM + embedded Linux as our solution. Similarly, the details that are about the hardware design and the software design is introduced in this paper.Besides, Testing methods and process is presented at the end of the paper. The testing results proved that the whole system can work quite well.
