Making full use of the advantages of virtual instrument, we constructed a platform of ultrasonic C scan detection system. The hardware unit is composed by industrial control computer, ultrasonic transmitter/receivers, multi-function data PC card, high-speed sampling PC cards, gpib PC card, and the tektronix oscilloscope, three-dimensional mechanical scanning system and signal processing circuit. The software system of the platform is written in Labview and C language, include the initial unit for platform initialization, the motion control unit for controlling the position of the ultrasound probe in the X-Y direction, the parameters set unit for the system parameters setting in the software system, the data processing unit for the ultrasonic echo signal acquisition and display, the data save unit for the sample data saving.This paper are organized as follows:using a variety of non-destructive test technique, a scanning mechanism was designed to control the ultrasonic probe to move with a C-scan path in X-Y direction; Meanwhile, the ultrasonic analyzer was controlled by a computer using the GPIB protocol, The ultrasonic echo signal was sampled by a PC sampling card and, stored to the computer, The mass of the echo signal data was used to the imaging and signal processing by the various algorithms. This paper is including as follows:(1) The basic display parameters of the C-scan ultrasound system were designed.(2) An accurately three-dimensional scan structure of the automatic movement of the ultrasound probe in the X-Y direction was designed, in order to ensure the detection automation, and avoid the missed and false detection by the wrong operation;(3) The way to integrate C-scan, the pulse generator, industrial machine, a variety of control board into a complete system was explored.(4) The three-dimensional scanning, motor control, instrument control and data acquisition together was integrated to a platform of ultrasonic C-Scan imaging system;(5) The algorithms on acquisition of the echo signal processing and ultrasonic imaging was explored.The designed system based on the virtual instrument designed technique, which can control ultrasonic analyzer to excite ultrasound transducer through GPIB protocol. Using the multifunctional control, the platform can control moving of the stepper motor to make the probe scan in the X-Y direction, the three-dimensional ultrasound scanning, motor control, instrument control, data acquisition was integrated into one platform system, the ultrasonic c-scan testing and imaging system is achieved. The experimental results demonstrate that the system is stable and high resolution.
