With the development and integration of electronic technology and industrial technology, the laser technology is more widely used everywhere. Then the laser engraving machine is also known as the focus of many companies in the advertising industry, the art processing industries and so on. In laser engraving machine industry, the control technology is the ability of the business to occupy the core competitiveness of an important factor. The pros and cons of the control system is the decisive factor for the customer deciding whether to buy.This thesis, which realizes the building of the hardware platform, takes the small desktop laser engraving machine's control strategy as the goal of the study with the DSP that has the powerful ability of data processing and controlling. The software controlling system, especially in image processing technology, the solution of scanning and power-down protection, is also researched deeply on the basic of the hardware platform.The thesis mainly covers the following aspects:1) It introduces the laser engraving machine system design, including its layout structure, work processes and design requirements. It also elaborates the control system's principle and confirms its goal of this research.2) It realizes the controlling system's designation, including hardware and software system. It contains the stepper motor's driving control, the designation of the USB circuit and the controlling of laser tube's power in hardware system. It also describes the basic function of the host computer the solutions of the key technology of DSP software system in software system.3) It introduces the basic knowledge of the image preprocessing, such as image translation, image rotation and the partition of image's multi-gray level, which gets a better carving effect.4) An improved control strategy is proposed after the analysis and comparison of several carving control algorithms. At last, a two-way scanning mode is determined from the low gray level, which can improve the speed of engraving and reduce the opening and closing times of laser.5) It is researched that a power-down protection algorithm of laser engraving machine engraving process.
