As the rapid developing of laser technology, it was applied in more and more area. To resolve the problem of engraving character on the low carbon steel pressure vessel more quickly, flexibly and high efficiently, we use high frequency Nd: YAG solid state laser to engrave on the low carbon steel pressure vessel.Base on the theory of laser processing on steel, we analyze the character of the laser processing to find the difference of laser cutting and laser drilling. Then we analyze the laser engrave processing and find the difference between the above two. We use ms pulse solid-state laser instead of continuous solid-state laser to engrave on the low carbon steel pressure vessel and analyze the character.To apply in laser engrave, we developed a high power and high frequency Nd:YAG lasers. A plane-plane resonator is used for high energy and high frequency pulse solid-state laser; we get a best resonator cavity length and the best optimal reflectivity through the experiment. The output frequency is 100Hz, the corresponding output laser energy with compromised good beam quality of 20mmï¹'mrad.Introduce of the output optical system which was used in the processing of engrave. There are 5 reflected mirrors to introduce the laser beam into the 100 mm focus mirror. The beam was focused into 0.3mm parameter. Analyze the theory of the focus character affected by the beam quality.In the end, we do some experiment of laser engrave. We find the best parameters to get a better engraving result which use our developed laser. As a result, we find the oxygen pressure and the distance between the laser and the work piece is the main reason to the engraving result. Do some analyze to the result and find the relation between the result and these parameters. Base on the experiments, we get a best engraving speed of 40mm/s.
