In recent years, with the rapid development of computers and laser, lasertechnology has been widely used in processing field. Now laser processingtechnology has already extended from special use into a general finishingtechnology which has a variety of processing capacity. Laser engraving is a newtechnology which uses laser beams with high energy density to make permanentpattern in the surfaces of object. Laser engraving system is set for the optical,mechanical, electronic and computer technology, as one of the equipment.Firstly, the graphics algorithm of laser engraving was introduced. Theprinciple and implementation of the NURBS, interpolation error analysis ofNURBS curve and its application in the numerical control system is introducedin detail.Secondly, hardware system was designed based on DSP according to thefeature of control system and resource requirements. The design was mainlydivided into two parts, which are the hardware circuit and laser engravingexecution system. Hardware circuit design includes the smallest system,communication debug modules, external storage expansion and stepping motordriving circuit. Laser engraving execution system includes mechanical systemand optical system. And the signal integrity in PCB design is analyzed.Then, the software of laser engraving system is realized, and experimentalresults are given. The function of CCS software is introduced. The ExFLASHcontrol, including inquiry, reading, writing and erase operation and motioncontrol was processed by DSP. Through the processing of vector data andbitmap data, the image is realized by laser engraving system.Finally, a method for power control of CO2laser is put forward through thecontrol system circuit design. Traditional CO2laser has only a single output power. The laser engraving system based on traditional CO2laser can onlyachieve black and white binary image. By control the width of the switch powerpulse input based on DSP, the output pulse frequency and duty ratio of CO2lasercan be adjusted real-time. The results of the experiment are analyzed, and themethod provides feasibility to multi-level grayscale laser engraving.
