Wireless sensor network (WSN) self-organizing network system deployed in a special area by a lot of cheap microsensor nodes, communicating with each other wirelessly and more than a jump. The nodes, in WSN, with its energy generally supplied by battery, if deployed in severe environment or no man's land, can not charge its battery. Usually survival time of WSN is except to several months or even years. Therefore, how to reduce the energy consumption of the nodes becomes the core issue of WSN and a hot research at home and abroad currently.The main purpose of this thesis is to extend life time of network via studying how to use the limited energy of nodes efficiently, such as reducing energy consumption and balancing energy consumption of nodes in the network. Also the detection system of temperature and humidity based on ZigBee is designed. The main contents include: a energy-saving strategy of non-uniform deployment of nodes, a energy-saving strategy based on hierarchical routing protocols and implementation of detection system of temperature and humidity based on ZigBee.In this thesis the energy-saving strategy of non-uniform deployment of nodes, based on the ZigBee network node types, is studied. In order to extend the life time of network, by studying the paths of flowing data and load among nodes, the non-uniform sensor deployment strategy, which number of forwarding sensors in a tier is equal to number of sensing sensors in tiers farther away from Sink, while sensing sensor density in all the coverage area is same, is presented.The energy-saving strategy based on hierarchical routing protocol also studied in this paper. the typical routing protocol, LEACH, only studied in the type of network, that cluster heads only can be generated among routing nodes, and sensing nodes become cluster members of the nearest cluster head. Meanwhile,routings among cluster heads should be formed in a way, that the cluster head far away from Sink need to be a cluster member of the one close to Sink.ZigBee, as a low-power solution of WSN, has developed at a rapid pace. In this paper the detection system of temperature and humidity is implemented base on ZigBee. Z-Stack of TI is chose to formulate cluster network, created by the coordinator, the routing nodes and terminal nodes. The coordinator is responsible for collecting temperature and humidity data, and sent to the PC via serial port. PC receives and displays the real-time data, and set up a database to store data.
