China is the biggest producer and consumer of tobacco in the world. There are about350million smokers in the whole nation,1/3of the total number of global smokers,including66%male smokers that above15years old, and540million passive smokers.About100million people die from tobacco-related diseases each year, more than the sumof the AIDS, tuberculosis, traffic accidents and suicide deaths. It's accounting for12%ofall causes of death. Without effective control, the number of smokers will rise to33percentby2020, the death toll will reach200million, half of them will die between the ages of35to64."World No Tobacco Day" approaching once again, the public health problem causedby using tobacco hasn't changed. Even we have taken part in "the Tobacco FrameworkConvention" since2003.With health communication perspective, this paper uses Sina and People's tobaccocontrol reports since the21st century. Sina and People are the most important onlinemedias in China, they could show the whole picture about tobacco control reports here.This paper chooses22837Tobacco Control reports as samples. These samples are thetobacco reports around "World No Tobacco Day". Tobacco control coverage of thenetwork news media will be divided into8categories, including publicity and education,activities, policy, rule of law, Economy, Trade and Industry, status report, comments, andother topics. With certain statistical analysis, under the guidance of agenda setting theoryand framework to construct theory, the three angles from the overall structure, time frame,media construction, this paper find the basic style of how the mainstream network newsmedia doing their tobacco control reports. On this basis, this research finds some existing problems and countermeasures, and future development trend of the network news mediatobacco control reports.
